Tall building and super tall building have been becoming much shape-complicated andmultifunctional, which lead to these buildings’ vertical load-bearing members should be cutoff. Then the transform structure is necessary to be used in the buildings. The advantages oftransform structure with inclined column are direct stress-passing, small section, better spaceutilization and the inclined columns can be used as anti-literal force members. In another way,Concrete Filled Steel Tube (CFST) column is suitable for subjecting to small eccentriccompression load. Therefore, transforming structure with inclined CFST columns can meetsome needs of those buildings such as long span, hard loading or multi-way transformation.The joint, bearing much compacted force, is the most important part and difficult to design.So, it must be solved for the researchers and designers to develop an inclined CFST columnsstructural joint with good mechanical performance, easy construction, better economic effectand to give the completely design theory.Basing on the Jiangmen Haiyi Hotel engineering project, detailed research has been doneto the inclined CFST column joints, and several conclusions were made.(1) Two1:6axial loading test models were performed to investigate stress distributionand static mechanical performance. Experimental results show that the joint has goodmechanical behavior, and the failure of the joint happen in the loading end of members.(2) Finite element model (FEM) was founded in ABAQUS to simulate experimentcondition. Comparing the analysis results of the limit bearing capacity, load-strain curve andfailure mode with experiment results, the finite element analysis (FEA) is proved to bereasonable and effective.(3)With the results of FEA, the stress mechanism of the joint was conducted. Throughthe analysis of the load selecting and the design of transfer member and joint, the designmethod of this kind of joints are presented.(4) The parametric analysis was carried out for some uncertain influencing factors injoints design, such as the thickness of stiffener, reasonability of HB1and HB2. Analysisresults show that HB1has rare contribution to the mechanical performance of the joint, butHB2can make2.5%increase in the bearing capacity of the joint.This research can provide theoretical basis and design method for the design of thoseinclined CFST column joint in transforming structure and also can be used in practicalengineering directly.
