Shear wall with steel tube-confined high strength concrete is a new type of compositestructural member. Experimental study on axial compression behavior, axial-flexural behavior,shear behavior, cyclic behavior of this composite structural member was completed byXiaodan Fang, Biao Jiang, Qing Li, Xiaoming Sun, Qinghui Liu et al. To improve the bearingcapacity calculation formula of this shear wall under axial compression, which is put forwardby Xiaodan Fang, Biao Jiang, axial compression behavior is more deeply studied in this paper.The main content and achievements are outlined as follow.(1) Through the axial compression test of18specimens, the failure mechanism and forcemechanism is analyzed. The influence of stirrup ratio between tubes of shear wall overbearing capacity and displacement performance is studied.(2) Based on literatures and regulations, the calculation method to the axial compressivecomposite stiffness is developed, which is proved to be accurate.(3) With deeper study of influence of stirrup ratio between tubes of shear wall overbearing capacity, the bearing capacity calculation formula of this shear wall under axialcompression is improved. The remaining capacity calculation formula related to stirrup ratiois also put forward.(4) Results of nonlinear finite element method analysis are compared with the test results.After comparison, it shows that the FEM is coincident to the tests.In this paper, the improved calculation formula is put forward which provideconvenience to design this type of shear wall.
