Previous experimental research indicated that connections subassemblies of RC framestructures experience considerable deformations under earthquake loading and thesedeformations have a major contribution to the story drift of the building. In current analysisand design applications, however, the connection regions are generally modeled as rigid zonesand the inelastic behavior of the joint is not considered. This assumption gives rise to anunderestimation of story drifts and hence to an improper evaluation of seismic performance ofstructure. To reflect in effect of shear deformation in Joint region on seismic design andstructure analysis, a model that represents their inelastic behavior needs to be considered. In this study, the authors tested two interior RC beam-column-slab connectionssubassemblies subjected to hysteresis lateral load, hysteretic joint shear behavior isinvestigated based on these tests and other laboratory tests reported in the literature. Bayesianparameter estimation method is applied to predict envelope curve of joint shear stress vs. jointshear strain behavior and given good (slightly conservative) solutions for computing the jointshear stress vs. strain responses of RC Beamcolumn connections. Selection of relevant featurepoints in the model sets the parameter for Pinching4material. Then comparing simulationresult of connection subassemblies considering BeamColumnJoint element model withexperimental result, it has been proved the accuracy of the model. In order to investigate theeffect of including joint model in nonlinear analysis of RC connection subassemblies, allspecimens are also modeled by assuming the connection regions as rigid zones。The result shows that analysis considering Joint model can better predict seismicperformance. Joint shear deformation influence on total story drift should not be neglected,Joint model taken into account in nonlinear analysis is reasonable and necessary.92connection subassemblies specimens are collected for analysis to assess effect of differentshear strength parameters on joint and obtain parameter correlation value.
