Twenty-first century has entered the era of underground development, thus increasingtunnel construction bear great responsibility in increasing social and economic benefits. Dueto the complexity and hidden tunnel environment, there are many unknown factors in theconstruction process, there may be a different problem, monitoring construction measure isparticularly important. Tunnel construction process can identify tunnel deformation and stresschange some rules guiding the tunnel construction is helpful, in general, we can get theexperience of these regularities in three ways: the value of construction experience, analyticalmethod and software simulation. Analytical methods applied in tunnel design, although moreaccurate, but the parsing process is too cumbersome. Experience in the construction processis to obtain numerical results of testing standards, but blindly through the constructionprocess of gaining experience may be very significant losses or pay a painful price.In this paper, the development status of numerical methods at home and abroad as wellas finite element numerical simulation software in the tunnel, elaborate numerical methodsare summarized highway tunnel excavation and analysis of its characteristics andapplicability, by finite element widely used in the current international ABAQUS softwarefor numerical methods to test and evaluate the merits of, and applied to the ABAQUSsoftware engineering examples, the long pit tunnel to Chaozhou, Guangdong Huizhouhighway engineering background, to simulate the actual excavation process, and the actualmonitoring measurement results to compare and analyze, validate numerical simulationmethods in the construction of the tunnel excavation reliability applications.
