Construction variability will lead to the properties of asphalt pavement material toproduce deviations, which may cause a variety of early disease, affecting road performanceand service levels, reducing the service life of the road. To analyze the construction variabilityof road and its impact on road performance, this paper analyzes the range and probabilitydistributions of the variability of main control indicators in the construction of asphaltpavement, such as aggregate gradation, asphalt content, air void and so on, then used errorpropagation theory and Monte Carlo simulation analyzing the variability of the dynamicmodulus of asphalt pavement, and analysis the variability of the thickness. Finally, analyzethe impact of variability of compactness and consistency on soil resilient modulus with MonteCarlo simulation.Investigated and analyzed the probability distribution of main controlling parameters, such as asphalt penetration, softening point, ductility, mixture gradation, air void and thelayers thickness. Research showed that main controlling parameters were mostly normaldistribution, but the ranges of parameter variability were quite different. Among them, asphaltpenetration, softening point and asphalt content have less variability, and ductility is larger;the variability of mixture gradation increases with decreasing, and the variability of air voidand layer thickness are reduced as the position of layers rises.According to the probability distribution and variability ranges of the main controllingparameter, using Witczak correction model to predict the dynamic modulus of asphalt mixture, and on the basis of error propagation formula and Monte Carlo simulation, analyzed theimpact of the asphalt penetration, mixture gradation, air void and asphalt content on thevariability of dynamic modulus. The results show that the analysis results of Monte Carlomethod is closer to the actual situation, among them, the variability of4.75mm sieve pass rate, air void and penetration have greater impact, followed influence factors are0.075mm sievepass rate and asphalt content; the dynamic modulus also can be affected by the variability of19mm sieve through rate, but the magnitude of the effect is linked with the residue on sieve. For fine-grained and medium-grained asphalt concrete, which residue percent on sieve are smaller, its variability has little impact on the variability of dynamic modulus. At last, based on the probability distribution and variability of controlling parameters ofsoil in the construction, such as compactness, consistency and plasticity index, establishedresilient modulus of clay, silt and sand, and analyzed how the variability of compactness andconsistency impact on resilient modulus of clay, silt and sand by Monte Carlo simulation. Itturned out that the influence of variability of consistency is much higher than the compactness’in clay and silt, but is lower in the sand, even lower than the compactness’.
