Ice slurry is energy storage and transmission media which has superiorperformance of latent heat. With high energy storage density, good heat transferperformance, advantages of liquidity and pumping, ice slurry has great applicationpotential which are energy storage air conditioning, industrial cooling and food coldstorage. It is still not widely used, because of storage,affected by the pipe system inthe process of transport, etc. The complex flow characteristic of ice slurry isdelamination, gathered, easy to jam pipeline. So, it is important to research on the iceslurry flow characteristics which has important theoretical and engineeringsignificance.First of all, all kings of making ice method was introduced, its advantages anddisadvantages were briefly show, at the same time, the research results of flow andheat transfer to ice slurry are summarized that would provide a reference to my studyon the characteristics of transport to ice slurry. The model of mixture was builded tostudy on the flow state of ice slurry in horizontal straight pipe, the C90elbow andcentrifugal pump.Through the numerical simulation of different diameter horizontal straight pipe, theflow field in horizontal straight pipe was obtained, the velocity and the volume of icecrystal particles distribution was analyzed, the relationship of the flow rate, pipediameter, rate of ice, the ice crystal particles and the pressure drop was studied. Theflow characteristic of ice slurry in C90elbow was investigated by using the method ofnumerical simulation, and the flow field and the particle trajectory of ice crystals wasobtained. There were some factors on the influence of pressure drop, such as the pipediameter, curvature radius, velocity, concentration of ice slurry. Meanwhile, the resultof simulation for the pressure drop in elbow and the experimental results werecompared, and both were approximate. The phenomenon of secondary flow wasformed because of the flow of ice slurry, two swirl areas appeared in the two sides of elbow on longitudinal profile; the trajectory of some ice particles were changed by theswirl area, the ice particles was gathered in the area of negative pressure and thechance of collision for the particle was increased. The model of the C90elbow waschanged, the phenomenon of secondary flow was avoided by the new model. Icecrystal volume fraction was focused on the center of pipe, the phenomenon of iceblock was effectively reduced; We also put up experimental table,using polyethyleneparticles instead of ice slurry, the flow state is observing. The experimental results andsimulation results are comparative. The distribution of velocity, pressure drop and thevelocity vector in centrifugal pump was given, it was discussed that the distribution ofice rate about the flux, ice crystal volume fraction and ice crystal size. The relationshipbetween pressure drop of inlet and outlet and ice crystal volume fraction and icecrystal size was given.
