James Corner is considered to be one of the most active architectural landscapingmasters in contemporary times. At the University of Pennsylvania, James Corner madean outstanding contribution to landscape architecture education while serving as Chairof the Landscape Architecture Department from2000to2013. Set up the FieldOperation Landscape Design Firm in1998, James have applied professional knowledgethat he acquired to solve complex urban process problems and carry out a distinctivenew path through his own practice, which all along is one of the most dynamic fields incarrying on urban design and landscape design globally. As a designer, as well asscholar, he makes full use of this dual identity to show distinct differences among avariety of firms in terms of design concept and works, and always express a strongmeaning of academic pioneer.Beginning with Processes over time, the landscape ideas that James Corner used tosolve urban problems in post-industrial era, this article explores methodology to dealwith the most significant issues in urban landscape regarding culture, ecology andgeography that we are confronted with nowadays by means of culture diachronic, ecological procedural and terrain mobility core, which is considered to be three aspectsof James Corner’s landscape conception. The Cultural diachronic attribute of Processes over time mainly originated from theculture of post-modernism. Based on and further inheriting and developing fromsemiotics, deconstruction, hierarchy culture and other cultures which are typical amongpostmodern times, James Corner come out with Activation Event Tactics as a way tomotivate culture events. By using active interaction between time and space in cultureevents, and temporal operation of the history, space and people, James Corner extendedthe memory of the city, awakened its vigor, improved its comprehensive benefits andconsequently realized the diachronic of culture.Traditional ecological planning is one of the the main sources of Processes overtime. James Corner worked hard on McHarg’s natural process and finally inherited it,and made the horizontal stream ecology integrated, worked out an approach tointegrating ecology on the base of having critiqued dualism of nature and urban.Withthe method of making full use of the forces which makes the nature going on, andimprove ecological streams, increase the participation of people and ultimately builds afoundation of artificial ecology and natural ecological in which that they can integrateand help each other. The mobility of Processes over time’s land mainly comes from conventionaltopographical which developed a lot when dealing with nowadays urban problems. Having been influenced by the convert of the range of contemporary topography, fixed land and infrastructure, James Corner put out operations like surface folding, stitching and infiltration so on,in order to realizing the operation let the fixed land giveplace to flowing land. The conclusion of the paper summarized the conception of James Conner’s idea ofProcesses over time. In the era with multicultural background and the problems comealong, Conner created an unique and comprehensive operation when took culture, ecology and topography into consideration. And in this works the characters culturaldiachronic, ecological process, terrain of liquidity were shown. Using more unique, comprehensive and objective results of research to make a more valuable andcomprehensive conclusion of creative perspective, methods, ideas of the forefront of thecontemporary landscape.
