Ship noise is a serious problem of noise pollution. It not only interfere with thecrew’s normal work and life, but also has an adverse health effects on crew’s physicaland mental health, cause human body physiological changes and result in hearing loss.With the development of ships in large-scale, the noise induced by power equipmentis increasingly more serious. And people have a higher demand for ship comfort withthe improvement of living standards. In order to provide a quiet and comfortableworking environment, let the crews and passengers away from the noise. Afterdiscussing at the recent meetings, The International Maritime Organization approvedan amendment to the revised draft IMO-A468(Ⅻ) at the91thmeeting in2012. Thedraft has higher and stricter requirements for ship noise, and it will be forced to takeeffect on July1th,2014.By comparing DE56new criterion with IMO-A468(Ⅻ), it is found that livingarea was the focus of noise reduction. Most of cabins in living area are reduced by5dB again. Due to the revised draft IMO-A468(Ⅻ) is not compulsory standards, it willbe a bigger challenge to Chinese ship noise control.Firstly, this paper introduces the main control methods of ship noise, and we willhave certain knowledge and understanding of the control methods of ship noise. Thenaccording to the noise control method and the actual situation of the ship cabinbulkhead plate, in line with minimum for the cabin interior space to achieve thepurpose of reducing ship cabin noise. The preliminary method is that filling thesound-absorbing material into the gap of the trim panel and bulkhead plate.Through the analysis and comparison of the different types of sound-absorbingmaterials, melamine foam sound-absorbing material is selected as the test material. Inorder to get better results of the test, we first test trim panel and bulkhead platewithout any sound-absorbing material between them and then we test the situationthat filled different thickness sound-absorbing material between them to analyze the reduction of noise without the sound-absorbing material or not and with the differentthickness of sound-absorbing material. Also in order to analyze the effect of air layerbehind the sound-absorbing material to the reduction of noise, we set differentthickness of air layer behind the sound-absorbing material.In this paper, the sound-absorbing material is filled between the cabin trim andthe bulkhead plate to reduce the cabin noise. Through the analysis and comparison oftest data, the sound-absorbing material is proved to be useful to reduce the cabin noise,which has certain reference value for noise-reduction design of ship cabin.
