The braking system is the key device of the urban rail transit vehicle, when a faultoccurs,it will endanger the safety of passengers seriously. In order to guarantee the trafficsafety of the train,it is needed to start a research on the condition monitoring and faultdiagnosis technology for the rail vehicle braking system. In this paper, we have carried out theresearch around the fuzzy and the expert system diagnosis technology. The main researchincludes:The acquisition of state variables is the precondition of the research. Firstly, we havediscussed the constitute of rail vehicle braking system. Then, by using the methods offaults-digging, we have gotten some common faults. After that, we have analyzed theselection criteria of state variables and how to obtain them; By introducing the concept ofconfidence interval,we obtained the failure data sources of rail vehicle braking system.Fuzzy and expert system diagnosis technology is the most popular and cutting-edgetechnology,nowadays. This paper compares several advantages and disadvantages ofartificial intelligence fault diagnosis technology,For the fault of rail vehicle braking systemhas the characteristics of cross faults, complex fault levels and difficulty in matching witheach fault knowledge, we finally choose the fuzzy and the expert system diagnosis technologyas the fault diagnosis scheme. This scheme can release the difficulty in obtaining the faultknowledge and the system will be more close to the reality.Fuzzy knowledge base and inference engine are the two important parts of the fuzzyexpert system. This paper has described the methods of fuzzy knowledge representation anddesigned a table structure of fuzzy knowledge base. Also, we have worked out a process offuzzy reasoning, chose an appropriate membership function and worked out the fuzzy relationbased with the physical fault. In the end we have obtained the fuzzy decision. In the conditionof triggering several rules, we also designed a fuzzy conflict resolution. After all, we got aright conclusion.Database technology and object-oriented programming method is the key technology ofsystem development. We have chose Visual C++as our development tool, picked Accessdatabase as system database and used ADO as data access technology. We have worked out anuser management module, a real-time monitoring module, an automatic diagnosis module, aKBM module, a dialogue diagnosis module and a miscellaneous function module.
