With the use of large space atrium is more and more widely, architects often unilaterally pursue the magnificent visual effect on design, while ignoring its potential to promote natural ventilation. Therefore, the fundamental research of natural ventilation on large space atrium and help architects to choose the best design strategies to fully play its role in promoting natural ventilation has very practical significance. This paper uses the basic theory and method of computational fluid dynamics, selects the large space atrium of the library of Chenggong campus of Kunming University of Science and Technology as the sample, and creates corresponding mathematic and physical model of the space. By the using of RNG turbulence model, carries out a numerical simulation study on the space to study the distribution of air flow and get the profile velocity distribution vector graph and image, and further carries on an experiment to verify the results. Though the comparative study on the date of numerical simulation and actual measurement, found that two sets of date have the same trend, and confirmed the feasibility of the method to forecast the natural ventilation of the large space atrium.Though the study of the influence on the natural ventilation in different section forms and different ventilation conditions, this article come to the design strategy of atrium natural ventilation in different area, and verify the correctness and scientific of the design strategy. In order to provide theoretical basis and scientific guidance to architects, when they face with the choice of the design strategy of atrium natural ventilation.
