Along with the rapid development of power industry, the security and reliability problems of power system has attracted more and more attention. In electric power system, the insulator is a component which connects, in the machinery, two electric conductors with different potentials; And its performances play a key role to safe operation of power grids. Insulator flashover accidents caused by polluted occur frequently, that not only impact the stability and reliability of power system, but also cause huge economic losses.By studying the discharge mechanism of insulator, a set of insulator leakage current online monitoring and diagnosis system is developed in this paper. The dedicated leakage current sensors are used in this system, to make the collected signal stable and reliable. The original running status of substation equipment is not affected, and neither be the insulator performances. At the same time, the fuzzy intelligent identification technology is used in this on-line monitoring system. Based on the parameters of temperature, humidity provided by leakage current sensors, it can intelligently judge the current running status of insulators, to make early-warning, and guide the cleanup of insulators. Thus the insulator flashover accidents can be effectively avoided.Debug the system and apply it to the220kV substation of huolinhe in Tongliao, for online monitoring of insulators. According to the status of system commissioning, it is observed that the electronic devices have a strong anti-interference ability, and can run stably for a long time at extremely low temperatures. The condition of leakage current of insulators in high voltage equipment and the changes of pollution in the whole substation, etc., can be truly reflected. Therefore, the insulator leakage current online monitoring and diagnosis system has a good practicability.
