Axial flow fan is a general machinery which has an extremely important role in the industrial and agricultural production. It is widely used in electric power, metallurgy and other industries, especially in thermal power plants, fans are the main boiler auxiliaries. Its power consumption is30%of power consumption,so it is necessary to study the performance of the fans. The fluid flow of the axial fan is the more complex three-dimensional viscous flow, its flow condition directly affects its operating performance. Therefore, the study of the flow characteristics of the fan is very important. Currently, CFD technology has become important means of analyzing the flow characteristics of the fan, it can accurately predict the performance of the fan, it also can describe the law of the fan’s internal flow, such as variation of pressure fields and velocity fields. In this paper, we study the axial suction fan of a600MW unit power plant, and map the prototype site for the fan, use autocad structure its three-dimensional model, then use the Gambit mesh grid for the model, determine the the watershed and the boundary conditions, use the Fluent do numerical simulation for the axial fan,and come to its internal flow characteristics, then do numerical simulation to different conditions of the axial fan and the low speed of fan, finally, compare and analysis the numerical simulation results with the actual operation of the fan, the results show that the numerical simulation can react the real situation of the internal fluid flow of the fan,and the simulation results are consistent with the actual operation of the fan,it provides an important theoretical basis for the next step energy saving.
