Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) facilitate various WAMS applications, including power system dynamic monitoring, power system analysis and control, by synchronously estimating and reporting synchronized phasors. However, the PMUs in power system are from different vendors, which are equipped with diverse hardware and various synchrophasor algorithms, making it hard to guarantee uniformity of the performances of PMUs. Therefore, it is crucial to perform static and dynamic tests on the PMUs before their commission to power system. This thesis proposes a new type of PMU test system which is based on PMU Calibrator, this thesis proposes a PMU Calibrator based PMU dynamic test system, where the PMU Calibrator serves as the reference value for synchrophasors. IThis thesis improves the traditional quadrature Taylor-Fourier Method by utilizing higher order Taylor-Fourier series, then Legendre Polynomial Method is promoted to improve its efficiency. To further improve accuracy and dynamic performance, the synchrophasor estimation method based on nonlinear regression method is proposed. Then the hardware configuration and hardware selection processes are discussed. Finally the above two synchrophasor algorithms are implemented in hardware system and their performances are tested and evaluated.
