As a reactive power compensation device, shunt capacitor is to solve the shortage of reactive power reserves, improve power factor and improve the voltage quality, reduce line losses, to ensure the safe and economic operation of power grid. With the development of the grid, the shunt capacitors is installed increasingly. the safe operation of the capacitor is particularly important. Therefore, It is necessary to study the effective operation and fault protection of capacitorThis paper describes the under voltage110kV shunt capacitor protection method and implementation. First, according to the operating characteristics of shunt capacitors, it analyzes the fault type of capacitor, introduces the traditional capacitor protection approach. The paper introduces the protection configuration and principle of shunt capacitor.It analyzes the conditions of capacitor over current, over voltage, under voltage.The design of capacitor protection is using the LPC1100as the core of the system, The voltage and current data is collected and sent to the signal processing circuit, so the digital signal can be recognized by the control system. The paper describes the main flow chart of software, It shows how to monitor and process the signals by the microcontroller.
