Distribution generation as a typical new energy because of its efficient、reliable、economicaland environment-friendly,has been attracting intensive attention at home and abroad recently, with the urgent needs of the global energy crisis and environmental requirements. Thedevelopment of distributed generation technologies make it possible that distributed generationsconnect to distribution network. Distributed generation usually connect to distributionnetwork, but the structure、power flow and it operation will change greatly because of theinjection of a large of distributed generations. Especially in the case of relay protection, the faultshort current in the size, direction and distribution will change greatly as will, as soon as multipledistributions connect to the distribution network, the original three-step current relay protectiondevice operation coordination in distribution network maybe break and can’t operation correctly. This paper introduces the common three-step current relay protection and its setting indistribution network at first. At the basis of this, a typical distribution network is been build, andevery protection device’s setting can be obtained. After that, this paper analyze the effects on theoriginal relay protection from the injection position, capacity of one and more distributiongenerations.A optimal placement model that aim at maximizing the penetration level for distributiongeneration in distribution network considering the original relay protection device action reliableis proposed, as to this problem, a calculation method based on genetic algorithm is been proposed. At last, an example of a IEEE33and a IEEE14distribution network is been used in this paperto solve and illustrate the placement of distributed generation in distribution network. The resultillustrate that the proposed model of planning to optimize the distributed generation is feasible andreasonable. This proposed optimal placement in maximizing to use the distributed generation cangive us some references, and this model has important theoretical and practical significance.
