TiO2thin films have a good prospect in environmental management, pollutionprevention and other aspects of self-cleaning. The ultra-thin water film was formed onthe substrate surface by the hydrophilicity of the TiO2thin films. It is expected toachieve building (structure) temperature regulation and self-cleaning surface throughrapid evaporation of the water film.The TiO2-PDMS composite films were prepared with Ti(O-Bu)4on glass substratewith sol-gel method. The XRD, SEM, UV-Vis etc. showed the physical properties of thecomposite films. In the outdoor environment, TiO2-PDMS composite films wereprepared on the structure model surface, and then the valve was open to make waterflow through its surface. The thin water films were formed and then measured thetemperature of each portion of the structure model to establish the heat balance equation.The heat transfer coefficients were calculated to verify the practical application of thesuper-hydrophilicity of the composite films.The results show that when PDMS content of TiO2-PDMS composite sol was21.69%, the light transmittance of the TiO2-PDMS composite films is best. After30minof UV irradiation, the contact angle of the composite films reduced to5°or less, and itcan stay long-term super-hydrophilic state in wet condition. In the outdoor environment,water film thickness was influenced by the bulk water quantity, and the optimumthickness is1.08mm. In hot summer, if with water bulking, the inside temperature ofthe structure was about7℃lower than that without coating in a bulk water,and itmaintained self-cleaning. Applied this to actual simulated buildings, the temperature ofthe inner space reduced about3℃,which achieved the adjustment of the internaltemperature of buildings efficiently.
