Energy shortage is a main restriction to our economy’s sustainable development. The heating furnace is an important equipment for the production process, which energy consumption takes up to25%of total energy consumption in iron and steel industry. Effectively and rationally utilizing energy becomes more and more significant to our country’s long term development.The automatic control of heating furnace is new technology developed in recent few years. It is a combined technology of computer software, hardware, automatic control and energy saving. At present, most of the industrial heating furnaces are still in the condition of high energy consumption, high wasting and high pollution. To improve the heat efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, using computer and PLC to automatically control is a far-sighted work. The automatic monitoring system of heating furnace plays a key role in operation. Using automatic control system can easily tell the thermal parameters’changing, moreover, it can achieve the target of whole system automatic control and increase the control precision, thus high yield, better quality, low cost and low pollution can be apt to achieve.This article is based on the China Railway Bridge Po’s high manganese steel frog water toughening furnace control system design. Under this background, it demonstrated experiments on a small test furnace. A control system is designed and by studying best burn mode, an advanced proportional combustion control methods is used. To improve the energy utilization rate of the furnace used both the proportional combustion method and regenerative burning technology. The final energy saving effect is obvious.Based on the real test data of the experimental furnace continuous optimization was done. Then according to the requirements of water toughening heat treatment furnace process and technics, thoroughly elaborated the whole automatic control system’s design process. The sequence pulse control method is used to control the temperature of the furnace. First, design the temperature control instrumentation and PLC based gas water toughening furnace. Then use step7to program the temperature control system. Finally, use WinCC to configure the temperature control process. It shows a significant result of energy saving and more accurate on temperature control. Meanwhile, it solved the environment pollution problem. This solution is testified to be working in real production.
