The alignment parameters of tire of automobile has an important effect onsteering characteristics,which were related to driver’s handling,stability of vehicleunder high speed and life of tire etc.This paper established the simulation modelingwith ADAMS/Car.Then the characteristics of turning in place were researched underdifferent alignment parameters by use of simulation model.At last,the results ofsimulation analysis were verified by5-axis steering test bench.The main contents include:1)The simulation models of front independent suspension and steering systemwere established in ADAMS/Car and turn-diameter and base was analysed withdifferent toe-angle,camber-angle,caster-angle,kingpin-inclination-angle in the model.2)The relationship of front wheel alignment parameters and the wheel paralleltravel was studied with different conditions and the characteristic of camber-anglewas found during the wheel parallel travel.3)For verifying the results of simulation model of ADAMS/Car,5-axis steeringtest bench was developed in this paper.Including the configuration and therequirements,the structure,principle of working,system of hardware and software of5-axis were described in the paper.4) This paper analysed the effects of kingpin-inclination-angle and caster-angleon camber-angle according to the results of5-axis steering test bench and thesimulation analysis. The change of camber-angle of wheel on steering was studied andits formula was obtained.5)Finally,the characteristics of camber-angle and contact center of tire thatsimulated in the ADAMS/Car were verified by5-axis steering test bench.It was shownthat the simulation model could simulate the movement of suspension and steeringsystem well.
