As the important component of internal combustion engine, the valve springs’ loadcharacteristic affects the performance of internal combustion engines and the car, and evenaffects its driving safety. As the result, valve springs have high demands on their loadcharacteristics. The factories should test all valve springs’ load and group them for differentapplication according to the testing results. With the flourishing development of automobileindustry, the demand of valve springs becomes huger than before. The load testing andgrouping work of the valve springs faces huge challenges. The demand for spring load sorterwith high performance and efficiency is becoming more and more urgent. Based on thecharacteristics of valve springs, the article designs a new cylindrical helical compression springload sorter, which includes the mechanical structure design, manufacture, test and itssimulating optimization.At present, the spring load sorters mostly adopt rotating disc structure. These sorters havebig localization error, and have friction interference in the process of load testing. As the result,the precision of load testing and sorting is very low. Aiming at the problems of existing sorters,the article confirms the main work to improve localization precision and eliminate interferenceof friction in the process of load testing.By testing the load characteristic, a batch of springs are grouped, which both can verifythe necessity of sorting springs according to their load, but also can give basis for the sorter’sdesign. According to the requirement of production, the article puts forward designrequirements and working process of the spring load sorter. According to working process, thespring load sorter is divided into five parts, which include separating device, handling device,testing device, sorting device and control system. Then the designing schemes of all devices areselected also.Base on this basis above, we design the mechanical structure of all devices, make detaileddrawings, and manufacture the prototype. Based on the prototype, the principle experiment,performance testing and analysis are all done in order to verify the principle’s feasibility, andthe function’s stability and reliability. At the same time, some design problems of the sorterare also found out and improved. In order to further optimized the structure and parameters of the sorter, the springstransportation and separation, which are the key functions of the sorter, and the feeding andseparating devices, which are the important part of the sorter, are studied based on theADAMS. After the improving and optimizing the sorter, its performance is improved obviously.The separating device can separate the springs reliably. The handling device can handle springsquickly and accurately, and eliminate interference of friction in the process of load testing. Totest springs with different height, the location of the cylinder in testing device can be adjustedexpediently. The sorting device can locate accurately and have low driving cost.
