From the point of the relationship between energy and economy, the economic development is bound to bring large amounts of energy consumption. At present, the energy consumption has been stable in many industrialized countries, but energy consumption increases in the developing world because of the process of industrialization, which lead to an exponential growth of the global average energy consumption. People are made to search for renewable energy urgently, fighting against the sustained growing international oil price and increasingly prominent environmental pollution. Wind energy as a kind of renewable energy, it has clean pollution-free and inexhaustible supply outstanding merits, which make it a preferable choice of renewable energy development. According to the trend of energy demand and actuality of energy crisis, this paper deals with the necessity of wind energy development, and wind power technology, wind turbine control technology, security analysis of pitch driving system s and output characteristics were also analyzed. The contents of this paper mainly include the following aspects:(1) The background and the development trend of wind power technology were presented firstly, and then a brief introduction of the simulation platform choice was made, Finally, the main research content were introduced.(2)The basic theories of wind turbines were introduced. Wind turbine aerodynamics and variable pitch control process was discussed to provide theoretical studying basis for studying of the system design and control strategy.(3) Modeling of wind turbine main parts were presented. Wind speed, wind turbine system, control system and converters are modeled. While wind turbine system model includes wind turbine model, transmission system model and asynchronous generator model, and the control system includes control system of DFIG and variable pitch control system of wind turbine. Variable-pitch characteristics analysis of a of wind turbine were analyzed:(4) A new method based on the probability distribution of the principle, which was used to extreme load calculation was proposed. The extreme load value of3MW direct-drive wind turbines pitch actuator was calculated by the proposed method and extrapolation method respectively, and analyzed the result of the calculation, determine the of the reference solution for variable pitch actuator design load value were proposed based on the comparison and analysis of the result, and the rating of reference solutions were verified in the instance..
