With the developing of electricity technique, big power grid is getting in touch with each other. Although traditional relay protection is always developing, from electromagnetic relay protection to microcomputer relay protection. It still has its limitations, such as correction、rapidity、reliability to relay protection. In addition, traditional relay protection can not take care of the whole power grid, it can only effect in part of power grid. And it will also not consider the action effect to the whole power grid. So the applications of wide area protect will solve the problem largely. It will bring relay protection to the new field after putting forward the wide area protection conception. Now using mature communication and computer technique and sharing all related electric parameters and information in wide area will make the decision and make sure the scope of protection to the power grid failure and abnormal operating state, Through high-speed fiber-optic communications, ensuring the security of the grid.This paper use transmission network wide-area protection way, combined with distribution network feature, give a wide-area protection way for distribution network based on the direction of the comparison principle. Analyzed the action steps of several common distribution network by using direction of the comparison principle wide-area protection method, and PSCAD modeling and simulation. Based on a detailed analysis of the simulation curves wide area course of action to protect and distribution network fault location phase short circuit faults and single phase to ground fault.This paper analyze the structure and function of wide area protection terminal, such as key technologies involving hardware chip and detection terminal hardware design, and terminal equipment corresponding improvement; study area protection terminal software implementation, analysis its data sampling process and the preparation of the corresponding function algorithm implementation functions. For wide area protection master, first of all, given the wide area protection master distribution network software flow diagram; then designed a wide area protection fault location algorithm and the corresponding sub-functions; Finally, a brief description of the operation of wide area protection process.The actual use of RTDS line real-time simulation platform simulation analysis, well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed wide-area protection and fault location algorithm.
