In such a big background, their characteristics is particularly important. Taking Xiamen Village, Lingshi Country, Shanxi Province as an example, Using literature data collection, reading, site investigation, field surveying and mapping, interviews and other methods, Studying the characteristics of traditional local-style dwelling houses building.About Xiamen village, on the basis of the data collection and field investigation. First, this paper analyzed selected location、their time and distribution、shape evolution form of the village and compound form of they、compound elements、their entrance space,So we have a shallow understanding of the characteristics of local-style dwelling houses building in Xiamen Village. Second, We do research on typical residential buildings and public buildings, For residential building yard of space layout, unit yard and public buildings yard of fort doors、temples and ancestral temple, we have a further understand about the characteristics of it, and understand that builders use of terrain. Then, Through different parts according to the material classification and analysis, analyzing their architectural decoration in xiamen village, understanding the residents’ culture, folk habits, pursuit of the social life and yearning for the future life, Then we could grasp people’s material needs, spiritual needs and give emotional architecture.Finally, summarizing the results of analysis and research, reflecting the problem in the process of analysis and research and putting forward the method to solve the problem, discussing the direction of the efforts needs to protect the traditional settlements in the future.Based on the famous historical and cultural Xiamen village, studied the characteristic of traditional local-style dwelling houses building. Research itself involves is not comprehensive, failed to consider, many details are just beginning, using for reference to the study of traditional local-style dwelling houses building, putting forward a little personal opinion for the protection of the traditional settlement.
