With the increasing problem of fossil fuel depletion, environmental pollutionand greenhouse effect, wind energy as a renewable non-polluting energy sourcebecomes increasingly important. In recent years, with the economic growth windpower develops quickly and has become the third largest power supply in Chinaafter coal and hydropower. With the growth of wind turbines connected to the gridthere are more requirements for wind power generation scheduling. Active andreactive power dispatching of the electric grid for wind farms and the wind powerprediction have been put on the agenda of wind farm restructuring. All these requireexpansion and renovation for wind turbine single-unit electrical control system andwind farm SCADA system. Therefore the research on wind turbine electrical controlsystem renovation is of great significance to wind turbine grid adaptabilityimprovement.On the basis of research on Sonid Youqi Wind Farm of China GuangdongNuclear Power Corporation, this paper first analyzes the existing problems of2MWwind turbines and puts forward corresponding solutions. Then the optimal hardwareand network topology renovation scheme have been studied to solve replacingproblems of electrical products. With GH Bladed software, one of the internationalwind power design tools, the optimal control strategies to track optimum tip-speedratio in low wind speed and reduce the wide power fluctuations and vibration ofwind turbines have been studied. Then, the coupling PID controller based on torquecontroller and pitch angle controller has been designed. Meanwhile,the LVRTtechnique on the main control side has also been studied to meet the neweststandard for connecting wind farm to power system. Finally, wind turbine localvisible man-machine interactive system based on configuration software has beenrealized. The wind-farm data acquisition server based on OPC has been designedand the client of wind turbine information system with OPC standard data accessinterfaces has been developed based on Visual Basic.Net platform.After the above-mentioned work, the results of these studies are applied to twochosen wind turbines in Sonid Youqi Wind Farm of China Guangdong NuclearPower Corporation. Within nearly two and a half month of field modification andtrial operation, the operation of generating units operate smoothly, and theavailability and power generation are close to or slightly better than peripheral units. In a word, the renovation achieves the desired effect, accumulates valuableexperience in field applications engineering and lays a solid foundation for theoverall popularization of these achievements.
