In view of the characteristics of hydrocarbon pump double seal is easy to damageand combining with the actual working condition in production, two working conditionsof film lubrication and friction appeared in the main seal of double seal is studied. Thethermal-structural coupling finite element model is set up by ANSYS software in thispaper that the sealing performance is analyzed and the structure is optimized.In analyzing film lubrication thermal-structural coupling stable state, the direct-coupling method was used, The end face displacement,contact deformation, end facestress and contact pressure are obtained when mating faces materials were tungstencarbide vs tungsten carbide and tungsten carbide vs graphite. And the effects of variousfactors on the sealing performance are analyzed. The results show that the maximumtemperature of sealing ring end face to pair of tungsten carbide and graphite is higherthan the tungsten carbide and tungsten carbide seal ring. There is a convergent gapbetween the end face of tungsten carbide and graphite seal ring, which is outward open-ing. And it’s an inner contact with the face. The maximum contact stress appears in theinner diameter of the face and the stress gradually increases as the radius increases. Theend face of tungsten carbide and tungsten carbide seal ring contact well, but it existsstress concentration at the inner diameter of this seal ring.In the analysis of heat-structure coupling of dry friction, better self-lubricating andlow friction coefficient of the graphite is taken as a static ring and the sealing ringcombination of tungsten carbide and graphite is analyzed. The end face displacement,contact deformation, faces stress and contact stress of the sealing ring also be got. Toanalyze the influence of various parameters on the sealing end clearance, its feasibilitycan be determined as the object of dry friction study. This is laying a theoretical basis forexperimental study of dry friction seal.In structural optimization, in order to research the uniformity and the types of contact, the stationary ring is chamfered, and the new model is built based on ANSYS fornumerical simulation. The results show that seal face to eliminate stress concentration,end face contact evenly, the highest temperature have some down. In performanceoptimization, the dry friction seal between tungsten carbide and graphite on experimentalplatform is researched. The seal leakage is observed by controlling the seal structureparameters and the operating parameters. The results show that load factors have asignificant impact on the seal leakage. The research in speed and sealed chamberpressure,the lower the rotational speed, the greater the pressure of the sealed chamber,and the smaller the amount of leakage. So the further research in dry friction should beunder high pressure and low speed situation.
