Electric slip rings are sophisticated devices of electric contact that transmit images,data signals and power of two relative revolving ring via sliding contact. They arewidely used in machinery, electronics, aeronautics and astronautics, which makes it avital point to account for the service life of slip rings with applicable sliding contactmodels. Since the service life of slip rings has something to do with contact state,stiffness of material, elasticity modulus, and roughness of contact surface, this paper,based on previous experiments, attempts to explore the contact performance andlongevity of slip ring friction pairs from a microcope point of view by introducing puremechanical contact model and the contact model of multi-physics coupling effect ofthermo-elastic-electro. Highlights are as follows:1. This paper builds a elastoplastic contact model of asperity units based on theprinciple of volume conservation of contacting asperity units during plastic deformationcontact, which reveals the relationship among normal deformation, applied load, contactarea and average contact pressure, and provides theoretical basis for the contact modelof elliptical asperity.2. After finite element analysis and simulation with finite element software, thispaper, by numerical fitting, works out the dimensionless equation of contact when thecontact unit is under one single applied load, taking into consideration of the viscosity ofmaterials. Based on this equation, we figure out the relational expression of actualcontact area between slip rings and applied load, which lead us further to the equation oflongevity analysis of slip rings with grain abrasion.3. After finite element analysis with finite element software, this paper, bynumerical fitting, also works out the equation of contact deformation when the contactunit is under multi-physics coupling effect. Based on this equation, we figure out theequation of longevity analysis of slip rings with electric contact. Then, we furtherexplore and analyze abrasion under electric contact by comparing it with abrasion undermechanical contact.
