Energy is the important physical foundation of human society and economicdevelopment, and as the prerequisite it plays an important role in improving people’slife. However, it has been a burning question to the shortage of fossil energy which isin a dominant position of energy structure. We have to face an inevitable energy crisisproblem. At the same time, the over-exploitation and excessive use of fossil fuel havecaused serious environmental problems. In order to achieve sustainable development,countries in the world have taken all kinds of measures to improve energy efficiencyand energy structure. The solar photovoltaic has attracted more people’s attention.As the research object, photovoltaic system is designed to improve the energyefficiency in paper. The automatic tracking system and the maximum power pointtracking techniques were studied deeply throughout the text.The function of automatic tracking system is adjusting the angle of solarphotovoltaic array to make it perpendicular to the solar ray, so that we would achievemaximum light intensity absorption in per unit. Control strategy of automatictracking system in this article is designed for combining time tracking with imageprocessing mechanism, and it is a loop control strategy. It will effectively improvesystem tracking accuracy and the ability to cope with exceptional weather. It willachieve the real sense automated tracking.Maximum power point tracking is a technique which can hold the maximumpower output of photovoltaic cell. In the paper, through studying a large number ofreferences and summarizing, various algorithms are compared in simulationexperiment which is created by MATLAB tool. The aim of experiment is to seekmore efficient methods.Based on the study of MPPT algorithm, Maximum power point tracking isapplied to the control system of solar street light as a try. Improving energy efficiencyis still the purpose. Then the hardware circuit of MPPT function module is designedin detail.Finally, the research results of this project are summarized and further studycontents are presented in the future. At the same time, the theoretical and practicalsignificance of this research are elaborated, and the future development of this area isprospected.
