Utilization of renewable energy has a very important role in sustainablesocio-economic development and environmental protection, as two widely used renewableresource, solar and wind energy can complement each other in terms of resources andtechnical applications. Wind and Solar hybrid power, can make up the shortcomings of aseparate wind and solar power generation and distribution. Wind and Solar hybrid powertechnology has a wide range of applications, such as communication relaying power station,roadway illumination etc. Therefore the study on Wind and Solar hybrid power technologyhas an important theoretical and practical value. In this paper, Wind and Solar hybrid powertechnology is used in street lighting system. The main work of this paper is as follows:The structure of the Wind and Solar Hybrid Street Light system is analyzed, and thediscusses on principle and characteristic of operation for each part of the system are alsocarried out in this paper.The control strategy of wind generation, photovoltaic generation and battery chargingare analyzed. Maximum power point tracking and their circuit realizing method are studied,the double input DC-DC converter is adopted to realize wind and solar energy can inputsynchronously and to realize maximum point tracking control of two energy. Also anintegrated and feasible control project is generalized.A controller of Wind and Solar hybrid street light system is designed based on Atmega8MCU. The hardware of several circuit modules on the controller are described, such asDC-DC conversion circuit, voltage and current detection circuit, power supply circuit, andunloading circuit. The system software flowcharts are given including system main program,solar power system subprogram, wind power system subprogram, perturb & observeAlgorithms subprogram. And the software is structured with subroutine modules, mainlyincluding AD sampling, PWM control, photovoltaic charging, wind charging, overloadprotection, status display, battery protection and so on.Relative experiments and analyses are finished. The results indicate that the controllerof the Wind and Solar hybrid street light is reasonable and feasible. Which can realize wind and solar energy can input synchronously, and can meet the needs of battery charging andprotection. The experimental results illustrate that the hardware and software design isfeasible and satisfactory.
