Because of the shortage of petroleum fuel and serious pollution of the environment, people realize that vehicle can not only offer us convenience, but also product many negative effects. Now the whole world focuses on energy conversation, pollution reduction and environmental protection. Methanol as the clear fuel has a great potential development after many studies. Shanxi province has much methanol, the big problem is that how to benefit the society with the characteristic of methanol. The paper studies the performance of methanol on the diesel engine through the engine bench test.The application of methanol in diesel engine is belong to the premixed combustion and diffusive combustion research of two ways: Premixed combustion is homogeneous combustion, fuel and air have enough time to mix, whose combustion speed and dynamic response are fast, in the meantime, emission is low, but the engine cannot be strengthened further because of deflagration, thermal load and mechanical strength; Diffusion combustion avoids these, which mixture and combustion can happen at the same time so as to make it soft. Diffusion combustion can reduce the heat load and mechanical load, and increase power performance further, but it produces more carbon smoke and NOX. The application of methanol in diesel engine can improve emission. This experiment installs a glow plug on the cylinder head of the diesel engine, the glow plug works all the time while the engine runs. In this way, we can improve power performance, economy and emission.In this paper, we increase the compression ratio from17to19on a1115single diesel engine first, use a10.5mm diameter of fuel injection pump replacing the9.5mm diameter; than install a glow plug in order to make methanol burning; at last, we install a cylinder pressure sensor to detect chamber’s combustion. So we can research effects of the engine performance due to the change of fuel delivery advance angle and compression ratio.The paper researches the performance of a primary diesel engine and the changed diesel engine use M100fuels, we proceed the engine bench test through changing fuel delivery advance angle (advancing4°CA、 advancing2°CA and delivering2°CA).Experimental results show that: From performance sides,the diesel engine using M100methanol can increase by10%of output torque and power through comparing the external characteristic curves; From economy sides, methanol fuel consumption rate is two times than diesel averagely in low load, but methanol fuel consumption rate is same with diesel in high load; From emission sides, the paper Compares in1200r/min and1800r/min burning methanol HC, CO, NOX and smoke carbon emissions.We analysis the diesel’s combustion and heat release regular through a pressure sensor collecting data.Based on results mentioned above, the way of using a glow plug on the diesel engine can fuel methanol, which can improve performance, economy and reduce emission. The ideal methanol replace some of diesel adapts to our national situation, which is worth to study.
