Born in1954, Kengo Kuma is one of the representatives of the Japaneseconstruction industry. He advanced the theories of “Anti-object”,“Architecture ofParticle”,“Defeated Architecture”,“Architecture of Nature”. His buildings arewell-known all over the world.When Kengo Kuma was young, his father affected him to become interest inarchitecture. His grandfather taught him to love the nature. Frank Lloyd Wright, BrunoTaut and Kenzo Tange are also played an important roll in Kengo Kuma’s Architecture.After joined the construction industry, Kengo Kuma’s understanding aboutarchitecture gets better and better.In this Article, Kengo Kuma’s construction life before2009has been divided into5periods: Spacial design studio, symbol expression, Transformation, formation of theoryand maturation. His Representative works in each period has been studied with details.The formation of his theory has been summarized. Comments has been made on histheory.This Article believes that the central idea of Kengo Kuma is the theory of“Architecture of Particle”, which appeared in the book of “Anti-object” for the firsttime. The theory of “Architecture of nature” comes right after it.“Defeatedarchitecture” is trying to support the other theories in the aspect of history. Also, there isa lot of Japanese aspirates in Kengo Kuma’s architecture.
