Width-to-thickness ratio will increase as the wall thickness of thin-walledcold-formed steel get thinner, stiffening section is used to improve the bearing capacity. As the Stiffening section get more complex, under the action of axial stress, not only theoverall buckling and local buckling may occur, but also the distortional buckling couldbecome a control factor to component bearing capacity in the case of thin-walled andcomplex section.Buckling eigenvalue simulation analysis is made to unstiffening and stiffeninglipped angle steel using finite element software ANSYS, improvement of ultimatebearing capacity is proved to be significant after stiffening. Simulation analysis is madeto stiffening lipped angle steel component with nine kinds of slenderness ratio, fourkinds of stiffener width dimension, four kinds of stiffener height size and six lippedwidth size, it is concluded that how the changes of various parameters affect bearingcapacity. By deformation nephogram, not only the member has single buckling, but alsohas distortion+integral and distortion+local interaction buckling deformation. With Australia/New Zealand standard, Schafer formula for direct strength method, the direct strength method formula of Hancock, Demao Yang direct strength method ofcorrection formula, ultimate bearing capacity of stiffening lipped members with variousslenderness ratio is calculated. Compared with finite element simulation analysis, it hasbeen shown to be different between the calculation results of a variety of methods andthe simulation results, and the adaptation scope of various methods is made.Modification value P0of the direct strength method is calculated according to thedifferent scope of slenderness ratio by different calculation methods respectively. Thenwith the direct strength method formula, it is concluded that the calculated results arecoincident with the results of finite element simulation. Thus, the recommended formulaprovide reference for the calculation of ultimate bearing capacity for stiffening lippedangle steel axial compression member.
