Bucket dredger is a traditional type of dredgers, the hull structure is special forbeing grooved. Through-shaped type of hull structure design is an importantcomponent part of the ship design. The hull structure design should meet therequirements of use under a variety of conditions, to ensure that the ship has beenprovided with the ability to withstand adverse external load. As the hull shape andstructure form is exceptional, there must be particularityin longitudinal strength,torsional strength and local strength of the ship. With the large-scale development ofships, the larger scale, the more load, its stress characteristics will become moreobvious. Therefore, reasonable design of the through-shaped hull and strengthanalysis is important part of researching on this type of ship.The ship structure design quality is mainly reflected in the structure strength ofship. This paper will grape the stress characteristics of the hull and knowing the stressand strain of the hull, based on analysis the self-weight load, still water load and thewave load in different conditions by mechanical analysis and FEM calculating. Findout the stress concentration parts and get the right way to improve the stress of thehull in those weak aspects. Compare the strength of “Zilong”(the largest bucketdredger of China) and the ship which is designed with the Standard, know thedisparity between the two models. And also take the bucket towers which are the onlystructures connect the demihulls into account, to understand better onThrough-shaped Type Of Bucket Dredger Design.Moreover, the author compiles a program which is based on the orders in theStandard for bucket dredger hull structure design calculating. It offers the data forfurther using in this paper, and also can be taken as reference in ship design of thistype of ships by other designers.
