With the arrival of ocean development age, water hydraulic technology also gets rapiddevelopment. In many applications of water hydraulic technology, water hydraulic pistonpump is widely used and now faces the increasing demands for its efficiency and noisecharacteristics. Port valves are important componets which imfluence the whole performanceof the water hydraulic piston pump. And there are few literatures about the imfluence of theport valves’ collision effect on the volumetric efficiency and noise characteristic of a waterhydraulic piston pump. That is just what this paper focus on.The main research contents are as follows:(1) A model for the flow-distribution of a water hydraulic piston pump was bulit. And thecoefficient of restitution (COR) for the collision between the valve spool and the valve seatwas introduced into this model. A simulation for the flow-distribution, which focused on theinfluence of the valve seat’s material, was conducted with Amesim code. And the port valve’scollision effect on the flow characteristic of the pump, was studied.(2) A model for the collsion between the valve spool and the valve was established. Asimulation of impact dynamics was executed with LS-DYNA code. And the COR was solved.A comparative analysis for different material of the valve seat was made. An acoustic analysisof the collision was put into effect with Virtual.Lab code.(3) A comparative experiment for water hydraulic piston pump was carried out. And theimfluence of the valve seat’s material on the volumetric efficiency and noise characteristic ofthe pump, was studied. And the experiment result was compared with the simulation results.The follow conclusions were drawn: the port valve’s collsiion effect doesn’t play a rolein the volumetric efficiency of the water hydraulic piston pump; the port valve’s collsiioneffect has a great imfluence on the noise characteristic of the water hydraulic piston pump andthe order of the noise in the cases of the4materials for the valve studied in this paper is,316L> NYLON> PEEK> PTFE.
