Cam mechanism, which is made up of cam, follower and frame, is a transmissionmechanism. It is widely used in auto mechanical equipments due to the simple structure andeasy to achieve complicated follower motions. Compared with sharp follower roller followerand flat follower of traditional cam mechanism,this paper which deals with curved bottomtranslating follower of cam mechanism can highly reduce the contact stress and unnecessarywear, improve the life. This new cam mechanism can be used in more power and speed worksituation, optimizes the mechanical structure,comforms the modern concept of mechanicaldesign, so it can be widely used in mechanical equipments.Based on the conjugate line theory and differential geometry knowledge, this thesis gets acomplete set of study method of cam mechanism with curved bottom translating follower.According to the envelope and kinematic method, this thesis has derived a set of design formulaamong the cam profile, follower profile and follower motion features. This thesis also hasanalyzed the features of the relevant parameters and derived a set of design formula, such as thepressure angle, the follower contact area, curvature radius of cam, contact stress and mechanicalefficiency. And through the analysis of circular-arc, ellipse, parabola bottom follower examples,this paper also designs the cam profile curve, relevant features, motion simulation and prove thecorrectness of the theory results with the aid of MATLAB software.Then, the thesis uses Solidworks software to build3D models of motion simulation of thisnew cam mechanism, and derives a continuous change motion curves, meet the kinematicsrequirements and get the same results with MATLAB software, so it can prove the accuracy ofdesign.Finally,using the VB as a programming tool, this thesis developes a set of cammechanism CAD system to analysis the curved bottom translating follower of disc cammechanism. The system has aimed to complete the design of cam profile curves, the analysis ofmechanical parameters features, output the results of kinematics curves and3D modelparameters, prove the accuracy of design with MATLAB, so it greatly improves the accuracyand efficiency of this design method.
