Microgrid has great significance to giving full play to the advantages of distributedgeneration, like the economic, environment and the energy. Distributed generationusually has the characterastics of fluctuation, randomness and intemittency. Thedistributed generation is increasingly integrated with the large-scale power grid, whichbrings challenges to the stable operation of the power system. By integrating distributedgeneration to a single grid and using energy storage to smooth the fluctuation of power,the microgrid can keep the balance of the load and power generation, also provideeffective solutions to the integration of distributed generation. Planning and designing isthe basis of the control and operation ofmicrogrid. Researching on the planning anddesigning method of microgrid is of great importance.The main work of this paper is as follow:(1)This paper models the microgrid system, including the distributed generationmodel, energy storage model, load model, and economic evaluation model. The systemmodel includes all the typical elements of the microgrid, the economic model takes thelife of elements into consideration, which can truly reflect the economic of microgrid.The model is the basic of the designing and planning of microgrid.(2)This paper proposes a capacity optimization method of energy storage andmicroturbine. The microtuibine is the main controllable distributed generation, whilethe energy storage is also controllable and important to smooth the fluctuation of windand solar power. The dispatching strategy and capacity calculation method of thecoordination of them are the cores of the research in microgrid. This paper firstlyproposes the power allocation method based on the spectrum analysis, then the capacityoptimization method of energy storage and micro turbine is shown. Finally, thetechnical and economic evaluation method is proposed. The case study shows theeffectiveness of the method.(3)When the size of the wind turbine, PV, micro turbine and energy storage are allunknown, and the economy and environment should both be taken into consideration,this paper proposes a multiple objective planning and designing method of microgrid.This paper chooses the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm to solve the multipleobjective model. The case study shows the correctness of the method and the comparison of this paper with the main stream method shows the excellence of thismethod.(4)In order to solve the problem of planning and designing of microgriddemonstration projects, the software named PDMG (Planning and Designing of MicroGrid) was introduced based on methods proposed above. This software containscapacity optimization, converter design, storage type selection and series-parallel design,schemes evaluations. PDMG is applied to planning and designing of micro-grid. PDMGis compared to HOMER and Hybrid2and the results show it has its own advantages.
