Recently, with the environmental pollution and the indoor air quality(IAQ)problem becoming increasingly prominent, the main reason is the large quantity ofvolatile organic compounds(VOCs) sending out in the room. So exploring andstudying the application effect of a new clean air sterilization technology has veryimportant significance. As a new type of sterilization purification technology, theintense pulsed light (IPL) has been proved to have very good air sterilization effect. However, the present domestic research in this respect is poor, and there is no specialstudy on the purifying effect on the volatile organic compounds in the indoor air. Inview of this, through the experimental methods, this subject has studied the staticsterilization effect and the purifying effect of the four kinds of typical VOC about theintense pulsed light in the standard environmental test chamber. In the environmental test chamber, using white staphylococcus as the targetmicroorganisms, this article has studied the sterilization effect of the pulsed lightdevice. The result shows that the disinfection efficiency reaches99.51%when the IPLdevice operates20minutes, which has significant effect on indoor air disinfection.Using formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and xylene as the typical volatile organiccompounds, this article has studied the removal effect of the VOCs and the influence ofdifferent initial concentration and environment relative humidity on the purificationeffect. The results show that: the IPL has fine removal efficiency about VOCs at thelow concentration, and the cleaning rate reduces when the initial concentrationincreases. With the initial concentration becoming lower, the total attenuationconstant and the clean air delivery rate (CADR) of IPL become larger and thepurification effect is better. Studies show that the removal rates of the benzene seriesare different: the removal rate of xylene is the highest while the benzene is the lowest. In addition, the relative air humidity (RH), ranges from55%to75%, has poorinfluence on the removal rate of the air pollutant in the whole process of experiment.
