In recent years, due to the development of shipping business, tonnage of the vessel as well asthe speed and power of the main engine grows higher and higher. As a result, the ship vibrationproblem is increasingly severe. Along with the progress of the shipbuilding technology, the massof the hull structure reduced and structure stiffness is less. This more likely to lead to high levelship hull vibration. On the international maritime organization’s (IMO)90th meeting, themaritime safety committee(MSC) adopted the revised draft of the Code on Noise Levels onBoard Ships, which includes contents as follow.-Ships that the Code be applied to.-Establishesmandatory noise level limits for different areas on board ships.-Recognizes measurement,measuring equipment, acoustic insulation and higher standard on noise control on board ships.People give more and more attention to ship vibration, which causes severe noise in most cases.Therefore, there is a great importance on ship vibration control. In addition, vibration problem hasbeen added to the primary factor in the early stage of the detail design. Ship owners ask for bettervibration characteristics in order to make a better environment for living.This paper uses two kinds of finite element methods to make global vibration analysis for1700TEU shallow water container vessel. And it finds the harmful vibration point and enactsprecaution and improvement measures by working out the natural frequency and comparing itwith the requirements of standard IOS6954:2000. Then used the GL-LocVibs local vibrationanalysis software of GL classification society is applied to make local vibration analysis for thesuperstructure of1700TEU shallow water container vessel. Through the result computed by thesoftware, the structural arrangement is adjusted to meet the requirements of vibration design. Atlast, the local vibration analysis about the superstructure and engine room of1700TEU shallowwater container vessel is made under the ballast condition during sea trial and full load conditionof ship operation. Two kinds of actual ship vibration measurement results both meet the standardvibration requirements and justify the forecast. Moreover, it offers a comfortable environment forthe crew to work and living.1700TEU shallow water container vessel as Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard most iconic brand container vessels, to made the vibration analysis for the first vessel, we believe it canguarantee the performance of it’s sister vessel has great significance.
