With the development of high-speed and high-haul railway lines, the continuous welded rail (CWR) has been used in many countries. Since the rail is constrained and can't move freely, it would produce a high longitudinal force which could lead to railway structure's buckling as well as vehicle's derailment and do harm to the safety operation as the temperature varies. It is an advanced subject to study the problem of the temperature stress in the CWR based on the related information of the variety temperature stress in the dynamic response of the CWR.Based on the Timoshenko beam theory and construction of a three-dimensional finite element analysis model of the harmonic response of the CWR, this paper study the constitutive relations of the temperature stress and the dynamic response of the CWR. To forecast safety and stability of the CWR, study the vibration characteristics subjected to the longitudinal force in the rail due to fluctuation of temperature and also considering the influence of the parameter alternation.Results show that the natural vibration frequency of the CWR is related to the temperature stress. The natural vibration frequency increase with the increase of the temperature and this change even more obvious if the rail subjected to the longitudinal compressive force. When it increased to a certain degree, the destabilization will exist. Variety of the structure parameter also influence the vibration frequency such as the rigidity of the railway plant and the distance of the sleeper:The natural vibration frequency will increase with the increasing of the rigidity and with the decreasing of the distance of the sleeper. Different kind of rail has different frequency. In the life of the rail, the natural vibration frequency will decrease with the longer time.To sum up, the analysis of the relation between the CWR temperature stress and the vibration characteristics provide a new approach to detect the temperature stress. It has significant and extensive application background to the safety of the main railway and urban railway.
