In the study, the inspection van developed by Harbin Institute of Techenology wasemployed to investigate the pavement condition of second-class highway inHeilongjiang Province. The Pavement Condition Index and International RoughnessIndex were calculated due to the protocol. In addition, the maintenance treatment foreach highway section was proposed. The main contents in this study were shown asfollowings.The pavement distress condition was obtained by using the inspection van.9sections of aspalt pavment and14sections of concrete pavement were selected forinvestigation in the study. The inspection results indicated that the distress condition ofasphalt pavement and concrete pavement were serious. The proption of poor conditionfor asphalt pavement and concrete pavement were about50%and44%separately.The distress characteristic was analyzed. The results indicated that the alligatorcracking, longitudinal crack and tranverse crack were main distress for asphaltpavement; and the cracking slab and crack were main distress for concrete pavment.The roughness condition of second-class highway was investigated by inspectionvan. The results showed that the roughness condition of asphalt pavement and concretepavement were good. The proportion of good condition were beyond85%for both kindof pavement.In order to analyze the generation reason of distress for concrete pavment, thecores from different highway sections were collected. The apperances of cores wererecorded. The results revealed that the main reason causing the distress of concretepavement were insufficient thickness of concrete slab, unformed base course and poorconcrete,overload axle.On the basis of the research results of pavement condition, the maintenancetreatment were proposed for each highway section in this study.
