With the rapid development of China’s economy, increasing attentionhas been paid to exploitation and utilization of marine resources. Thenecessity for ocean engineering and oil exploration highlights cranevessels among engineering ships. Rational design of lifting system affectscrane capacity and efficiency directly. Therefore, it has important practicalsignificance that optimizing main structural components of the liftingsystem. This paper carries out with the following three aspects:Firstly, optimization design of boom structure based on particleswarm algorithm. With comprehensive analysis of many factors todetermine the design variables and constraints, an optimization model isestablished, intending to minimizing boom weight. The boom structure ofcrane vessel lifting system is optimal designed with the introduction ofparticle swarm optimization algorithm. Stability of the algorithm are alsoanalyzed and discussed.Secondly, parameter analysis of particle swarm algorithm. On thebasis of previous research achievements, the influences of algorithmparameter selection are discussed, focused on the specific optimizationproblem. According to the experimental results, recommended parametervalues are given to naval architecture optimization model based on finiteelement method.Finally, analysis and evaluation of structural strength of the liftingsystem. To guarantee the safety and reliability, the structural strengthanalysis of entire lifting system is carried out after the optimal design ofboom structure. Model for finite element analysis is established using MSC.Patran. Load cases and boundary condition are determined accordingto working characteristics and rules reference. To verify the rationality ofboom optimal design and safety of lifting system strength, numericalsimulation is performed using MSC.Nastran. Also, the stability of boom isanalyzed.
