Automotive engine compression ratio is one of the most importantfactors affecting the performance of the engine. Research shows that thecompression ratio of the engine is basically linear to maximum power andpeak torque and minimum fuel consumption rate. The changes in enginecombustion chamber volume directly affect the changes in compressionratio, the large deviation of the combustion chamber of each cylinder headaffects the consistency of the engine compression ratio. Thus, the enginecombustion chamber volume has an important impact on key indicators ofengine power, economy and emissions and life. Cylinder head volume isan important part of the combustion chamber volume. With the increasinglevels of car engine manufacturing precision and automation, precise andefficient detection of head combustion chamber volume has become theguarantee of quality and reliability of engine.Based on Liner three-dimensional laser scanning principle, this articlestudies the cylinder head combustion chamber volume precisemeasurement technology and its implementation. Composed of3d measuresensors, rail, motion control systems and cylinder head, this system can getthe point cloud of cylinder head combustion chamber. Then after a seriesof point cloud processing algorithms, including filtering algorithm, surfacereconstruction and volume calculation algorithm, we get cylinder headcombustion chamber volume. Thus realizing fast, automatic and precisemeasurement of the cylinder head combustion chamber volume.Based on the development of the engine cylinder head combustionchamber volume precise testing prototype, we performed a lot of actual experiments. Through the experiment, we evaluated the measurementaccuracy of the system, repeat measurement accuracy, and efficiency of thedevice, Besides, we employed the device in a car plant and reached goodresult.
