In the21st century knowledge-based economy has become the dominanteconomy, the automotive industry is facing a new environment. The productdevelopment is the core technology for the automotive industry. In order to adapt tothe new changes, governments, industry and the scientific community proposed avariety of advanced product development technology, including reverse engineeringtechnology as one of the advanced product development technology, to get universalattention, reverse engineering technology is a modern design one of the importantdesign tools.Automotive engine technology is the automotive industry’s core technology,mastered the advanced engine technology in a leading position in the marketcompetition, while the engine cylinder head on the engine as an importantcomponent, which studies have been carried out for a long time, especially headshape greatly affects the airways engine intake and exhaust performance, therebyaffecting the overall performance of the engine. Cylinder head design, the use oftraditional design methods, the design takes about seven or eight people together sixmonths to complete, will not only increase the cost of the design and production ofcylinder heads, and sometimes there will be mistakes in the design. In particular, thedesign of the cylinder head airway, airway traditional design is completed the testbench, the work more complicated, long test period, can not quickly achieve theoptimal shape design airway and airway core box. Therefore, this paper based oncurrent research on domestic automobile engine cylinder head, the use of reverse engineering of surface reconstruction head model to study the use of CATIAsoftware airway core box design, can effectively improve the shortcomings oftraditional methods, can greatly reduce the amount of manual labor, shortening headresearch and development cycle significantly improve product quality.The main contents are follows:1、We can use3dss measuring machine software for access to data and headairways overall data. After testing this software every time will save a file manually.When measuring according to the airways characterized by the appearance of sandcore and the cylinder head, can adjust the measuring position.2、 The point cloud data of WRP format input GEOMAGIC of reverseengineering software for the professional point of repairing and puting together, andcomplete the reverse design car head airways in this software.3、After processed data of GEOMAIGC input in three-dimensional designsoftware CATIA to build entity, based on analysis and comparison of the two modelscurve and surface reconstruction method based on, as the car head shape is toocomplex, choose a method based on the curve, proposed a kinds of scan lines orboundaries using feature projection and then sketch out the shape curve method notonly improves the accuracy of model reconstruction, and can easily and quicklymodify errors.4、Carried out in the CATIA software airway core mold design, combining thecasting process, introduce a variety of core-specific methods, by comparing differentshapes airway core box parting, come airway sand core parting surface designselected general law.
