With the improvement of modern aircraft engine performance, the internal workingenvironment of engine tends to be harsh, such as high temperature, high speed, highpressure, high friction, high frequency vibration and so on. Sealing devices, which are partof the engine, play an extremely important role in improving efficiency of the engine andensuring safety. The traditional static sealing techniques such as flat gasket seal technologyand rubber sealing technology can be not adapted to the rigorous condition of the engine, sothe elastic metal sealing technology emerges at the right moment. It has many kinds ofstructure forms, such as metallic C-ring, metallic U-ring, and metallic W-ring and so on,they have light quality, simple structure and good capability of the self-tighten sealing. Nowthey are applied in the fields of aerospace, nuclear power, and petroleum chemical.The W-ring that this paper study is a a new type of structure of the elastic metal seal. Itis made of the nickel base high temperature alloy, which could be well adapted to hightemperature condition. Because of its excellent characteristic of compression rebound it ismore suitable for vibration occasion. Performance of W-ring is analyzed by using ANSYS,Contents are as follows:(1) Basic structure of W-ring is proposed, According to the initialization Parameter ofW-ring, the finite element analysis model about W-ring is established.(2) According to the finite element results, mechanical properties of W-ring areanalyzed, including stress distribution analysis of W-ring in the three working conditions;the analysis of the impact of different operating parameters on stress of W-ring; the analysisof the impact of structure parameters on stress of W-ring; the calculation of W-ring stiffnessand the analysis of the impact of structure parameters on stiffness; the analysis of thecharacteristics of W-ring compression rebound.(3) The structure of W-ring is optimized by using zero order optimization method andthe first order optimization method, the best optimization result is obtained.(4) W-ring sealing leakage model of W-ring is established to calculated the leakage;The design scheme of W-ring high temperature experiment is complete, it is convenient tomeasure the leakage of W-ring in the next step, so the seal performance will be evaluated.
