Recently, with the fuel consumption and emission regulations of both domesticand foreign getting gradually stricter, more and more energy saving and emissionreduction technology has been applied. Also, Degree of Enhancement Engine andthermal load increased. These together put forward higher requirements for enginecooling system. Both overheating and overcooling can influence the engine economyand reliability performance.An E4T16turbo engine acts as the research object in this paper. It is a lightweightengine is based on the naturally aspirated engine with turbocharger technology. In earlytests, the overheating such as cylinder gasket sinter, oil carbonization, liner slightlyscuffed were found in this project. The test result shows the cylinder bore bridgetemperature reaches267.4℃.In this paper, based on the issues above, PRO/E is used to build the researchobject3D model, HYPERMESH is used to mesh the model, FIRE is used to carrywater jacket CFD calculations, and ABAQUS is used to calculate temperature field.First, the PRO/E IGS model is import into HYPERMESH to finish pretreatment andmeshing. Then according to the test result, the related parameters of the initial valueare defined before the simulating calculation is done. After that, simulation results arecompared with test results to confirm the accuracy of the model. At last, based on thismodel, the calculation and analysis of other optimization scheme is to complete.At first, two better proposals are selected from six optimize proposals byassessment of different comprehensive aspects including manufacturing process,manufacturing economy, engine reliability, CAE simulation result. Then the prototypeof the better proposal is built and tested to confirm the improvement effect. Thefinal technical scheme of project implementation is determined according to the testresults. Finally through the durability bench test and analysis engine disassembling test,the overheating problem is confirmed to be solved.The solution was quickly found by comprehensive evaluation mode, saving timeand cost for the project. Finally the water jacket elongation to the center proposal wasimplemented as mass product proposal.
