Because of the characters of compact structure, low porosity, large plastic deformationcapacity, very low permeability and self-healing, salt rock cavern is internationallyrecognized as the ideal storage form for oil, gas and radioactive waste. However, there havebeen few publications of the character of self-healing of salt rock in China. In this paper, amodified creep-damage model considering damage healing of salt rock was purposed basedon the original creep-damage model proposed by Guijun Wang, some comprehensive andsystematic characteristics of the model were deeply investigated.The study mainly includes the following points:1. The strength behavior research of rock salt: The strength characteristics of salt rockwere analyzed through out uniaxial and three dimensional compression tests.2. Study of creep-damage model: A criterion of distinguishing damage developing ordamage healing, the damage healing equation and the new creep-damage modelconsidering damage healing were built up, the correctness of the model was proved usingcompression test simulation.3. Using the new model: The DLL file (dynamic link library) was written, and theeffect of the DLL was proved by using it in numerical simulations. A numerical model of asalt rock cavern was built up, the creep deformations, the stresses and the damage of thecavern were deeply investigated using the new model.
