Wind power generation technology has a rapid development and has been allowedgrid connected operation, for wind power is inexhaustible in supply and use. However, thepower quality of grid connected Wind Power has attracted more and more attention, such as,voltage fluctuation, three-phase voltage imbalance and harmonics pollution, even moresevere loss of power. In addition, the application of plenty of power electronic device alsoleads to increase of harmonic and the distortion of voltage waveform. As the developmentof Flexible AC Transmission System, as an important part of Flexible AC TransmissionSystem, compared to traditional reactive power compensation, has advantages of a morerapid dynamic responsive speed and more smooth regulation performance, so STATCOMhas a rapid development.In this paper, the framework and operating principle of Wind Power has been studied.Besides, the characteristics of DFIG have also been analyzed. After the analysis of powerquality of Wind Power, the role of reactive power compensation has been introduced.STATCOM has been used as reactive power compensation device by the comparisonbetween SVC and STATCOM. With the reference to the instantaneous reactive power, andthe working principle of STATCOM, a mathematical model based-on instantaneousreactive power theory has been established. A detection method of instantaneous reactivecurrent has also been analyzed.To the control method of STATCOM, the inverse system of PI control methods hasbeen improved based on fuzzy control theory—the inverse system of PIλmethods.The simulation model has been established in matlab/simulink, according to the studyof the working principle and mathematical model of all parts of Wind Farms. Theestablishments of two control methods verify the important role in stabilizing the jointvoltage. By the result of simulation, a result also proved that the inverse method ofPI control method has a better adjusting performance than the PI control method.
