With the development of extra high voltage and ultra high voltage transmission andexpansion of the grid, the capacitive reactive power of transmission lines increases and thepower flow variation exacerbates consequently. While the fixed reactor has somedisadvantages in high voltage system, it is necessary to analyze superconducting reactor toprovide reactor power compensation. This paper aims to make a study on research anddevelopment of380V superconducting reactor, the main works are as follows:(1) Proposed and compared four superconducting reactor concepts and prototypes, andthen high-leakage reactance superconducting reactor proposal is adopted. Based ontheoretical design and simulation calculation, electromagnetic design parameters of iron,normal winding and superconducting windings are obtained.(2) Helical winding manufacturing method of superconducting windings is presented,according to preproduction, superconducting windings are fabricated. Futhermore, weldingmethod of current lead terminals and design scheme of open epoxy dewar are raised,besides, current lead and dewar are manufactured.(3) In the light of requirement of superconducting reactor, quench protection deviceand control device are designed and manufactured. In addition, experimental test is done toverify the work characteristics of superconducting reactor.
