Whether the design and matching of the engine’s intake system, exhaust system andvalve timing system are apposite or not will directly affect the gas flow characteristics andthe cylinder ventilation process of the engine, with the supercharged engine, they will alsoaffect the use of the energy of the exhaust, and at last, affect the dynamic performance, economic performance and emission performance of the engine. Facing the increasinglyenergy and environment crisis, technical staff are constantlystudying and improving theintake and exhaust system and valve timing systems to get an engine with better power, economic and emission performance.A combining studying method of the one-dimensional simulation and experiment isused in this paper to study the effects of the intake and exhaust and valve timing system’sstructural parameters on the engine performance in detail, by using the one-dimensionalsimulation software GT-Power, an engine model has been established based on the DCI11turbo diesel engine from the Dongfeng Company. Adjust the parameter of the model toensure that the simulation results’ error with the experimental results is acceptable.Furthermore, study how the change of the parameters of the intake and exhaust system andvalve timing system will affect the engine’s performance such as the volumetric efficiency, intake uniformity, ventilation process, available energy of the exhaust gas, power, torque, and fuel consumption by change only one factor at a time, the parameters includethelength of the intake manifold, intake manifold diameter cavity volume, row le ngth intakemanifold, exhaust manifold diameter, the diameter of the exhaust manifold, turbo inletpipe diameter, turbo mode and valve timing.Generally, the target of the optimization of theintake system is to get more air and reduce the circle-to circle variability, while the targetof optimizing the exhaust system is to reducing the resistance of theexhaust, and withinthe supercharged engine, the transfer and use of the exhaust should also be considered, thetarget of the optimization of the valve timing system is to reduce ventilation losses andpromote the scavenging process. Analysis theresults of these studies are the structuralparameters’ impact on the turbocharged diesel engine’s performance, and makerecommendations for optimizing. The results show that: the factors involved in this article have obvious influences onthe turbocharged diesel engine. The original size, parameters in the DCI11engine are at agood level, which still can be optimized. The results in this article can be used in thefuture design of the engine.
