The Emotional Design Of The Tyne River Landscape In Newcastle UK

This thesis mainly focus on the research of emotional design of River Tyne in NewcastleUK and analyze what, why and how is emotional design. On the basis of fully understanding ofemotional design, the author had used the spare time in Newcastle to experience the localconditions in Newcastle. The author had investigated the regional geography, the local hydroclimate and the historical culture of Newcastle to fully understand the urban-watercourselandscape there. Newcastle is a very important port city in UK. The famous River Tyne in thenorthern part of UK flow through the city and contributes a lot to the city’s political,economical and cultural life. All the major landscapes in New Castle distribute along the riverside of Tyne and form a unique urban-watercourse landscape.In this thesis, case studies, photo analysis, comparative analysis, as well as field studieswere utilized to analyze what kind of design can be emotional design in urban-watercourselandscape design and how to achieve emotional expression in the design of landscape in fourdifferent aspects, the basis of design; the features of design; the presentation of design and themethods of design. Moreover, an in-depth study was done in the characteristics, function,designation and future prospects of emotional design through the comparison between theurban-watercourse landscape of River Tyne and the urban-watercourse landscape of RiverQinhuai in Nanjing to get a thorough consideration on the effect of emotional design to peopleand the emotional requirements of human from landscapes.
