Throttle is an important part in the engine control system, as the main parameter to control thefuel injection and ignition of engine, the open angle of throttle directly affects the powercharacter, the economic character and the emission character of engine.With the electronic technology developing rapidly and the problems about environment energyincreasing concern. In1980s, the electronic throttle was invented by engineers because of actualrequirement, and it was being applied in the high-grade car replacing the mechanical throttle.Electronic throttle spread application because of advantages, for example quick response andaccurate angle, but at the same time, the related faults and the new diagnostic technology alsoappeared with time fling. There are many performance evaluation indexes about electronicthrottle, including the response time, the stability time, the air mass flow, the motor torque, themoment abruptly change resistance, the sensor linearity and so on, while, one of the mostimportant performance evaluation indexes is response time, the study on it is of great significant.The typical faults about electronic throttle mainly include the power circuit fault, the sensor faultand the mechanical fault. This topic is that the design on electronic throttle experiment benchbased on the virtual instruments of LabVIEW, and the system can control the electronic throttleby personal computer, including many kinds of angle step experiments and the square wavesfollowing experiments, besides, the experiment bench can also simulate several kind of typicalcommon faults, make the parameters showing more visual than traditional method. There is aimportant significant about this research not only in the throttle production, but also in the relatedteaching in the university, it’s good benefit to comprehend the operation principle and status forstudents.At first, this paper introduces the generation and development about automotive experimentbench and the electronic throttle, focuses on the ETC’s introduction on the working principle,design requirements and advantages.In the next place, this topic analyzes and confirms the control strategy used in electronicthrottle, including PID and fuzzy PID strategies. Make the ETC act by using the NI9263analogsignal output card sending the square wave into the drive circuit based on the H bridge inMC33887chip, and then the personal computer receives the throttle position sensor voltagethrough the analog signal input card NI9215, so the whole process is a closed-loop system, whilethe software design includes the electronic throttle control system and the electronic throttlefaults setting system.At last, verifying the modules in the system through experiments under the laboratory environment, while the testing results were analyzed and compared. The experimental resultsshow that the electronic throttle control system can achieve the evaluation indexes about ETC,and the fault simulation modules can reflect the related fault’s characters.
