Currently suspension bridge and cable-stayed bridge have been widely used. Many of the tower pile caps of these type bridges are so large as to belong to massconcrete structure. Mass concrete pile caps are easy to create cracking in summerconstruction period. Arranging of cooling water pipes in large caps is one of commonmeasures to control temperature and prevent crack in engineering. In this paper, take alarge suspension bridge’s tower pile cap as an example to analyze its temperature fieldand stress field in summer construction period. Meanwhile, the measures oftemperature control and crack preventing are studied.Firstly, the tower cap’s layered pouring process is simulated by ANSYS software. Its temperature field and stress field under cold water cooling condition are obtainedby ANSYS transient analysis. And the results are compared with those under naturalcooling condition. Secondly, the effect of water pipe spacing, inlet water temperature, water flow rate, the beginning of watering, pipe material and pipe diameter to thecap’s temperature field and stress field are focusing analyzed. Finally, the influencesof concrete layer’ thickness, pouring temperature, surface shading and interval ofpouring are discussed. An optimal solution is proposed for the project example basedon above studies. The studies show that, cooling pipes have remarkable effects on temperaturecontrol and crack preventing for the cap, in which pipe spacing and the beginning ofwatering are especially obvious. Reducing pouring temperature together with havingsurface shading can obtain good effect.
